La Copie at the Museum

La Copie is a participatory project based in Brussels that invites people to (re)discover painting through the reproduction of famous works.

Since 2019, free workshops have been organised in Brussels, open to all, with no prior experience required. In a friendly atmosphere, participants can experiment with brushwork, learn painting techniques, and share a collective moment.

For its fourth edition, La Copie is coming to the Brussels City Museum – Maison du Roi. Around one hundred reproductions will be exhibited that have been carefully crafted to resemble the originals as close as possible.

Presenting these works in a museum validates them: they assume a life of their own and become ‘originals’ in their own right. This approach aims to demistify masterpieces, make art accessible, and encourage self-confidence through artistic pratice.

This autumn, the Museum and the workshop’s participants invite you to immerse yourself in this collective experience, where painting becomes a vehicle for learning, sharing, and creativity.
