Minerva, or Liberty

Through this Minerva, Paul Du Bois represents an allegory of freedom. Actually, this masterpiece is often referred to as such. The artist has been inspired by the Roman goddess of wisdom. He uses extremely precious materials such as ivory, silver and copper to embellish this representation. This masterpiece from the museum’s collection symbolises a fine example of Art Nouveau and symbolism: the two major artistic movements in Brussels and abroad, at the turn of the 20th century.
